Correlation of RON to California Science Content Standards Grades K- 6

As with any correlation, there will continue to be a debate about how much focus needs to be present in a unit for it to be considered appropriate and correlated to the California Science Content Standards. This especially holds true with regards to the "Investigation and Experimentation" strand, some of the WeedEd units will provide students with more structured experiments; others will provide students with the opportunity to initiate longer-term investigations.

Standards with an "*" next to them indicate the concept can be developed fully by teaching the particular WeedEd/RON activity as written.

Additional standards and concepts that are mathematical or non-science oriented are listed if they are addressed in the WeedEd/RON activities. These concepts may require additional information or teaching in order for the student to fully comprehend the concept. Suggested modifications that would increase or decrease the level of difficulty is found in the "Going Further" sections of each activity.

Note: Section 4: Returning WeedEd/RON to the community has not been included in this correlation because it will consist of outreach materials (posters, graphs, drawing, letters, etc) that were the products made during previous lesson plans.
